The American Heart Association advocates for improvements to cardiovascular disease prevention, care and research at the local, state and national levels.  The Office of Policy Research and Development develop fact sheets on key issues that are grounded in the best available scientific evidence.

From time to time, the American Heart Association puts out policy statements, guidelines or recommendations in the areas of heart disease and stroke prevention and research.  These are based on expertise from the science and policy arenas and are the basis for our efforts in Washington, DC and your state capitols.

US state mapState Advocacy Resources

The American Heart Association maintains an advocacy presence in all 50 states. We focus our work in these areas on the State Policy Priorities and Local Policy Priorities which are updated each fiscal year based on feedback from volunteers and staff across the country.

In this section, you will find contact information for our staff in each state, as well as state and local resource documents utilized by state and local advocacy staff when crafting a policy agenda for each state or local community.

The Public Policy Agenda, updated every 3 years, provides our federal, state and local advocacy staff with strategic guidance and direction on policy issues and positions that align with and support the Association’s mission and  priorities.  

Additionally, each year, we prioritize our advocacy initiatives into a Federal Priorities Agenda document.
