Protecting NIH Funding
The American Heart Association is just one of more than 300 organizations participating in the Rally for Medical Research Hill day on September 18. Our advocates from across the country will gather in Washington, D.C. to meet with their members of Congress and emphasize the importance of investing in the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for heart and stroke research.
Without sufficient investment in research, cures for prevalent and costly diseases such as heart disease and stroke will be seriously delayed. This is particularly troubling because as our nation’s population ages, nearly 44 percent of Americans are likely to face some form of cardiovascular disease by 2030.
The association believes that now is not the time to slash the NIH funding needed to support lifesaving medical discoveries. Federal support for NIH research is an investment in our country's future.
