Professor and director of the Master of Clinical Nutrition Coordinated Program in the UT Southwestern School of Health Professions. Her career at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center has spanned four decades in which she has focused on nutrition education. She enjoyed helping students gain knowledge and skills to improve their own nutritional habits and those of their patients to prevent such chronic disease. Her “laboratory” includes the supermarket, where she has guided lay people, professionals and national media, on supermarket tours, and the computer lab, where she has developed computer-based cases for teaching nutrition concepts to medical and other health professions students.
As co-investigator for the NIH-funded GoodNEWS trial, she has worked to improve the nutritional habits of African-Americans through South Dallas churches. Since 2008 she has represented the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics to the Nutrition Committee of the now Lifestyle and Cardiometabolic Council. In that role she has been involved with the Front of Pack Labeling Work Group that guided the evolution of the nutrient and calorie criteria for the HeartCheck Program. Her publications reflect her interest in nutrition in the prevention and treatment of heart disease and cancer. She earned her doctorate in nutritional sciences from UT Austin and was named Distinguished Dietitian of the Year for Texas in 2005.
Maureen E. Conway, MBA, MA, RD, LDN
Maureen E. Conway is Director of Nutritional Affairs, for McNeil Nutritionals, LLC, a member of the Johnson & Johnson Family of Consumer Companies In this position; Conway coordinates and ensures effective nutritional sciences messaging for the nutritional brands and the company. Among her responsibilities are strategic nutritional input for marketing and sales, providing nutritional perspectives to the news media, nutrition labeling and advertising review, professional association company liaison with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, American Diabetes Association, American Academy of Family Physicians, American Heart Association and establishing and maintaining relationships with the KOLs in the professional nutrition community. She ensures that health care professionals are kept informed of the latest science based research for the nutritional products. In addition, she provides extensive training & education on nutrition science and Nutritionals product attributes to internal and external customers.
Conway began her career in public health with the U.S. Department of Agriculture where she was Northeast Regional Nutritionist for the Women Infants and Children program. In 1990, she joined Wyeth-Ayerst Laboratories in the company’s infant nutrition division and held positions of Assistant Director, Associate Director and Director of Pediatric Nutritional Affairs. In 1999, she joined the Johnson & Johnson organization when McNeil Consumer Healthcare launched the Benecol? product line. In 2000 she joined the newly created Nutritionals division and was promoted to the Director of Nutritional Affairs.
In 2013 she joined the larger J&J Consumer sector in her present position. Conway is a registered dietitian and is licensed in the State of Pennsylvania. She is a graduate of The New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center dietetic internship program and received a M.A. degree in Nutrition from Syracuse University and a M.B.A. degree from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. Conway is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (Academy), the Pennsylvania Dietetic Association, the American Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association and the American Association of Diabetes Educators. Conway completed the three advanced training certificate programs in pediatric and adult weight management offered by the Academy. She is a founding member of the Academy’s Weight Management Dietetic Practice Group and has held an elected national executive committee position. She has a strong interest in obesity, cardiovascular and diabetes nutrition management and is published in her field.
