What do awards mean?
Patient care based on
the latest scientific guidelines.
The hospitals on this map have been recognized for their patient care by the American Heart Association, American Stroke Association and national and international accrediting organizations. These hospitals have been proven to provide care based on the latest scientific guidelines, which increase survival rates and lower patients’ risk of ending up back in the hospital.

Primary Stroke Center Certification: These hospitals meet standards for prompt stroke patient care. This certification was developed by the American Heart Association, American Stroke Association and The Joint Commission.

Advanced Certification in Heart Failure: These hospitals meet standards for treating heart-failure patients during hospital stays, in transition from the hospital to home and during outpatient care. This certification was developed by the American Heart Association and The Joint Commission.

Mission: Lifeline® Heart Attack Receiving Center Accreditation: These hospitals meet standards for lifesaving heart-attack treatments such as angioplasties that restore blood flow. The accreditation was developed by the American Heart Association and the Society of Chest Pain Centers. Mission: Lifeline is the American Heart Association’s coordinated system of care helps communities nationwide to speed up and streamline the process of diagnosing and treating heart attacks – from the first 911 call to in-hospital treatment.
Mission: Lifeline® Heart Attack Referring Center Accreditation: These hospitals meet standards for promptly diagnosing heart attacks, providing initial care, stabilizing patients and transporting them to a Receiving Center for further treatment. The accreditation was developed by the American Heart Association and the Society of Chest Pain Centers.

Get With The Guidelines®-Heart Failure:This program helps hospitals follow scientific guideline-based treatment for heart-failure patients. Studies credit the program with reductions in deaths within 30 days of leaving the hospital and with lower rehospitalization rates.

Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke: This program helps hospitals follow scientific guideline-based treatment for stroke patients. Studies credit the program with reductions in deaths within 30 days of leaving the hospital.

Get With The Guidelines®-Resuscitation: This program puts the expertise of the American Heart Association to work helping hospitals consistently provide the most up-to-date scientific treatment for cardiac arrest.

ACTION Registry®-GWTG™: This program, developed by the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology Foundation, gathers important treatment data on heart attacks while helping hospitals improve consistent use of scientific guideline-based patient care.

Gold award-winning hospitals are recognized for two or more years of consistent achievement. Silver award-winning hospitals are recognized for a year of consistent achievement.
