Following seven healthy behaviors to prevent heart disease can also help you ward off cancer.
For each American Heart Association Life’s Simple 7 steps that you follow, your risk for cancer drops. In a new study, those adhering to one or two of the factors dropped risk by 21 percent; four decreased risk by 33 percent; six or seven of the factors cut cancer risk by 51 percent.
Life’s Simple 7 is part of the association’s My Life Check campaign that advises Americans to adhere to seven factors for a healthy heart:
- Being physically active
- Keeping a healthy weight
- Eating a healthy diet
- Maintaining healthy cholesterol levels
- Keeping blood pressure down
- Regulating blood sugar levels
- Not smoking
