Know Your Numbers
Accurate blood pressure measurement is critical for timely diagnosis and treatment of individuals with high blood pressure. That’s why we work closely with community health organizations to empower Coloradans to measure and track their blood pressure and take steps to prevent heart disease and stroke.
Chicken Mole with Tortilla Strips
Mole (pronounced MOH-lay) is a rich, dark reddish-brown sauce made from onions, garlic, chiles and a bit of Mexican chocolate and is usually served with poultry. In our version, we use unsweetened cocoa powder instead of chocolate to reduce the added sugar and saturated fat.

Four Colorado Volunteers Travel to Nation’s Capital to Advocate for Food and Nutrition Programs
The American Heart Association brought heart disease and stroke patients, survivors, caregivers, health care providers and other advocates from across the country to Washington, D.C. for the Farm Bill Fly-In to ask their elected representatives to support nutrition and food security programs in the 2023 farm bill. Start 2026 Strong. Double Your Impact.
In Your Community
The American Heart Association is dedicated to building healthier communities across Colorado by advancing five key priorities: women’s health, creating a Nation of Lifesavers through CPR readiness, eliminating nicotine use, improving blood pressure control, and strengthening nutrition security.
By focusing on these critical areas—and working alongside local organizations, sponsors, businesses, and community partners—we strive to enhance the health and well‑being of people throughout Colorado, ultimately saving and improving countless lives.
Coloradans are relying on us more than ever. Together with our supporters, the American Heart Association will continue to push for progress, drive meaningful change, and remain unwavering in our mission.
For more than 40 years, advocacy has played a vital role in the American Heart Association’s mission. With staff and volunteers active in every state capital and in communities nationwide, we work to advance evidence‑based public policies at all levels of government that support longer, healthier lives.
Public policy advocacy is a key strategy in creating lasting policy, system, and environmental changes that help Colorado communities live healthier lives free from cardiovascular disease and stroke.
In Colorado, our advocacy efforts center on several priority areas: implementing Cardiac Emergency Response Plans and AEDs in schools, reducing nicotine use, strengthening nutrition security, and supporting healthy early childhood development.
