#HandsOnLou Campaign Aims to Save Lives

#HandsOnLou

#HandsOnLou calls on Louisville to become a part of the Nation of Lifesavers by learning Hands-Only CPR. Thanks to funding from the American Heart Association, each of the Louisville Fire Department’s 21 stations has been equipped with a new electronic CPR training manikin. Stop by any station in the Louisville urban service district between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. to get hands-on practice!

Kids Heart Challenge Ambassador Announced

Alexis KHC

After collapsing at school at the age of 13, Alexis was diagnosed with Long QT Syndrome and received an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator and pacemaker. She has since become involved as a volunteer with the American Heart Association and recently accepted the role of Kentucky Youth Ambassador for the Kids and American Heart Challenge!

Protecting Youth from the Dangers of Nicotine

Youth Nicotine

Nearly 25% of Kentucky youth who use nicotine admit to purchasing vape pens and other products in stores. A law like Tobacco 21, which prohibits retailers from selling nicotine products to anyone under 21, is only as good as its enforcement – and Kentucky is one of only ten remaining states that doesn’t have a comprehensive Tobacco 21 Enforcement Program.

3 Days Only! 7X Impact!

In Your Community

Community

The American Heart Association is committed to driving equitable health impact in Kentucky through five key priority areas: women, readiness, tobacco and vaping, patients, and healthy living. Equity is always at the center of our work, and it will continue to guide all that we do.

Through our focus on these key impact areas, and with collaboration among local organizations, sponsors, businesses, and others that serve the community, we are working to improve the health and well-being of Kentucky citizens while saving and improving countless lives.

Throughout the state of Kentucky, we’ve seen our community impact work grow, including efforts around creating avenues for greater access to care, expanding healthy food access and education, building a network of first responders through CPR kits in schools, supporting blood pressure screenings and education, and educating on the dangers of tobacco and vaping.

People are counting on us as never before. We at the American Heart Association, along with our supporters, will drive change, and we will be relentless. Thank you for your continued support.

Advocacy

For more than 40 years, Advocacy has had a mission-critical role in the American Heart Association's work. Our legislative and regulatory priorities help to mitigate risk factors and protect survivors in communities across the country. We support the enactment of evidence-based public policies that lead to longer, healthier lives.

Public policy advocacy is an essential strategy used by the Association to affect necessary and sustainable policy, system and environmental changes that help Kentucky citizens build healthier lives free of cardiovascular disease and stroke.

Our efforts in Kentucky and its communities are focused on the following policy areas: Tobacco and Vaping, Access to Care, Medicaid Expansion, and Hypertension Prevention and Control.
