Your Personal Property Can Help Secure the Future for the People and Causes You Care About

The American Heart Association accepts a wide range of personal property to aid in the fight against heart disease and stroke. Collections, antiques, artwork, and other types of personal assets can be used to make a gift.

Benefits

  • You may receive a charitable income tax deduction for your gift.
  • In most cases, your income tax deduction for a gift of personal property is limited to your cost basis – that is, the amount you originally paid for the property.

How It Works

  1. Ownership of the personal asset that you are donating is transferred to the American Heart Association prior to the sale.
  2. The American Heart Association can sell the personal asset while bypassing 100 percent of any otherwise applicable capital gains tax.
  3. The profit from the sale funds our lifesaving mission.
