Wichita Heart Ball Ambassador Program
Ambassadors are a group of selected high school students who participate in educational and servant leadership activities. The Ambassador program is intended to be fun and prepare young leaders to be future heart advocates, while serving as an excellent resume builder, since these young men and women have the opportunity to learn valuable leadership development skills and network with peers. The Ambassadors will be presented at the American Heart Association's Heart Ball in February 2025. The activities will occur during the 2024-2025 school year. Wichita and surrounding area students from all high school grade levels are welcome to apply!
National Football League and American Heart Association huddle for a heart-healthy season kickoff
Ahead of the NFL season opener on September 5, the Kansas City Chiefs and the American Heart Association launched another season of NFL PLAY 60™ and Nation of Lifesavers™ at Three Trails Elementary School in Independence, Missouri. The event featured Hands-Only CPR and fitness demonstrations.
NFL PLAY 60 encourages students to get 60 minutes of daily activity, while Nation of Lifesavers aims to double cardiac arrest survival rates by 2030 through CPR education and AED access.
Students previewed the NFL PLAY 60 Kickoff Fitness Break broadcast, which will air on September 19, guiding them through various physical activities. Another broadcast is scheduled for February 6, 2025, before Super Bowl LIX. Schools can register at heart.org/NFLPLAY60.
Kansas Tribal Impact
The American Heart Association is focusing efforts on growing the relationship with the four land tribes in Kansas to create a sustainable infrastructure to address structural health inequities. Those tribes include the Fox Nation of Missouri in Kansas and Nebraska, Iowa Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska, Kickapoo Tribe in Kansas, and the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation.
We aim to deepen and improve their tribal member’s health and well-being while empowering local capacity and community change grounded in culture and community values.
City of Wichita approves new tobacco ordinance
The Wichita City Council approved changes to its tobacco ordinance, shifting the penalty from underage youth tobacco license holders.

Public policy advocacy is an essential strategy used by the Association to affect necessary and sustainable policy, system and environmental changes that help Kansans build healthier lives free of cardiovascular disease and stroke.
Our efforts in Kansas communities are focused on ensuring access to health care coverage through Medicaid Expansion, protecting comprehensive insurance and equitable enforcement of tobacco retail licensure.
