St. Philip’s College Joining Both HBCU and HSI Programs
St. Philip’s College in San Antonio, TX is now one of our HBCU and HSI partners!
Founded in 1898, St. Philip’s is a public community college in San Antonio with a mission to empower its diverse student body through education and career preparation. As both a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) and Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), it offers a range of degree programs and workforce training to support student achievement. St. Philip’s has earned recognition for its cybersecurity education and continues to impact the community through initiatives such as job placement and scholarships. The college currently serves more than 11,000 students in over 70 different academic and technical disciplines and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (Sacs) and is part of the Alamo Colleges District.
As a participant in our AHA Scholars Program, St. Philip’s College is:
- The first HBCU and HSI in the Scholars Program
- Our first HBCU Scholars Program in Texas, as well as in the southwestern and western regions of the U.S.
- One of 25 HSIs in the Scholars Program
- One of 25 HBCUs in the Scholars Program
- First AHA Scholars Program funded by H-E-B, a Texas supermarket chain founded by Howard E. Butts. Currently, the initials also stand for “Here Everything’s Better,” the store’s current slogan.
The two St. Philip’s students joining our program this year are:
- Christopher Sauceda, second-year psychology major
- Lanett Shields, second-year biology major
