AHA Scholars at the Super Bowl Experience: Empowering Fans with Life-Saving Knowledge

The Super Bowl is one of the biggest sporting events in the world, but this year, it became a stage for something even more impactful than the game itself. The AHA Scholars were on the ground at the Super Bowl Experience, not only enjoying the excitement of the big game, but also empowering attendees with vital, life-saving knowledge.

What is the AHA Scholars Program?

This program provides young, passionate individuals with the tools and support they need to make a tangible difference in their communities.

AHA Scholars have the unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in areas like health education, public health advocacy, and community outreach. These dedicated individuals are trained to lead CPR and AED training, raise awareness around heart health, and champion life-saving education in their communities. Through their involvement, they’re helping make heart health and emergency preparedness a priority for the next generation.

Making an Impact at the Super Bowl Experience

While fans were on the edge of their seats watching incredible plays, the AHA Scholars were busy teaching attendees how to respond in the event of a cardiac emergency. By learning the simple but effective Hands-Only CPR technique, anyone can be ready to save a life when every second counts.

The technique is straightforward:

  1. Call 911 immediately.
  2. Place your hands on the center of the chest.
  3. Push hard and fast—aiming for 100-120 compressions per minute (about the beat of the song "Stayin' Alive").

This method of CPR eliminates the need for mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, making it easier for more people to step in and act in an emergency. The scholars took to the event with enthusiasm, showing fans of all ages just how simple it is to make a difference.

Why Hands-Only CPR Matters

Cardiac arrest can happen anywhere, anytime—and when it does, survival depends on fast action. In fact, studies have shown that effective bystander CPR can double or even triple the chances of survival for someone experiencing a cardiac arrest. Yet, research also shows that less than half of the people who suffer a cardiac arrest outside of a hospital receive CPR from a bystander. That’s where the AHA Scholars come in, spreading the word about this crucial life-saving skill.

The presence of the AHA Scholars at the Super Bowl Experience couldn’t have been more fitting. Fans gathered to celebrate one of the biggest sports events of the year, but the Scholars were there to remind everyone that real heroes are made off the field, too—by stepping up when a life is on the line.

Looking Toward the Future

The AHA Scholars Program is more than just an initiative—it’s a movement toward creating a future where everyone is equipped to handle emergencies, save lives, and advocate for better heart health in their communities. With the support of the AHA and the dedication of these scholars, we’re seeing a future where CPR and other critical health education are as accessible and widespread as they should be.

By attending the Super Bowl Experience and sharing their knowledge with so many, the AHA Scholars are proving that leadership, education, and health advocacy don’t stop at the sidelines. Their work will continue to inspire and empower others to take action, because when it comes to heart health, every action matters.
